Parking Lot Update

Dear Highlands Family,

I wanted to share an important update regarding our proposed parking lot expansion.

On Tuesday night, the Delano City Council voted not to approve our parking lot expansion and to table the proposal for at least 60 days. This came as a genuine surprise to us. The proposal had already been approved by the Planning Commission, and city staff were recommending approval. All indications given to us were that it would be approved, so we were shocked by the outcome of the vote.

While this is certainly disappointing, it is not discouraging.

As some of you know, churches in our network have faced similar challenges in the past. In each case, God has faithfully provided a way forward. Because of those experiences, we are confident that, together, we can navigate this process and work toward a solution.

More than anything, this is an opportunity for us as a church family to respond the way followers of Jesus should: with faith, unity, and prayer. We believe God is building His church, and we trust Him with every step of this journey.

Would you join us in praying?

Pray for wisdom as we determine the best path forward.
Pray for favor with our city leaders.
Pray that our interactions would always be marked by grace, humility, and love.
Pray that God would continue to open doors for the ministry He is doing through The Highlands.

We are committed to keeping you informed as we move forward and will provide updates as we have more information. We have requested a meeting with the city council for the week of August 3rd and we hope to have more information for you then.

Thank you for your continued prayers, encouragement, and commitment to what God is doing through our church. We remain full of hope and confidence that the Lord is at work, even when the path ahead might look different than we expected.

With gratitude,

Aaron Sorenson
